哲學

Q1: How likely is the multiverse? Would it change anything if (somehow) we came to know the theory was true?

John Locke 論文競賽是什麽(me) ？

如果隻能給大學準備前往經商/人文社科方向的學生推薦一門競賽“鍍金”，John Locke 會(hui) 是我的首選。有的同學可能會(hui) 問，這門競賽究竟有何魅力？

John Locke 論文競賽是由英國牛津獨立教育組織 John Locke Institute 與(yu) 英國牛津大學和美國普林斯頓大學等院校教授合作組織的學術項目。

通過超過學校課程外的不同學科領域的一係列具有挑戰性與(yu) 趣味性的話題，鍛煉與(yu) 培養(yang) 學生成為(wei) 一名優(you) 秀寫(xie) 作者所需要具備的以下能力：獨立思考、知識淵博、條理清晰、批判性思維能力、以及有說服力的文風。

評委全部來自於(yu) 英國牛津大學的資深教師，因此能夠在競賽中獲得來自牛津大學教師的青睞，將大幅提升未來英美大學本科申請競爭(zheng) 力。

參賽須知

對於(yu) 想要參賽的同學們(men) 來說，這裏還有些關(guan) 鍵信息是你不可遺漏的：

• 參賽截止日期為（格林威治時間：2022 年 6 月 30 日，星期四，23:59 分之前）

• 在參賽截止日期（2022 年 6 月 30 日）年滿 18 周歲或以下的任何國家學生都可以參加

• 每篇文章隻能討論所選擇的學科類別中的一個問題，但可以在不同領域中提交多篇文章，每篇不得超過 2000 字（不包括圖表、數據表、腳注、參考書目或作者聲明）

• 提交論文要通過 John Locke 官網的鏈接，需要將文檔改成 PDF 格式提交，標題要遵循姓氏、名字、學科、問題編號的順序（例如 POPHAM, Alexander, Psychology, Q2）

• 入圍選手名單公布時間：2022 年 7 月 14 日

如何現在就開始備賽？

大家看完上述的問題，是否會(hui) 有一種“看著都會(hui) ，提筆腦子就空白”的感覺。我們(men) 要知道這是一門專(zhuan) 業(ye) 性很強的學術寫(xie) 作競賽，要想出彩，是要下不少功夫去思考的。各位選手現在需要做的，就是先把題目都過一遍，然後從(cong) 眾(zhong) 多題目中選出自己最感興(xing) 趣的 3~5 道，把這些題裝進自己的腦子裏，然後在接下來的一個(ge) 月裏，大量閱讀文史哲的書(shu) 籍，以及主動搜索與(yu) 這些題目相關(guan) 的知識，讓自己慢慢成為(wei) 這些題目的專(zhuan) 家。一個(ge) 月之期到了後，再決(jue) 定要參加哪個(ge) 領域，寫(xie) 哪道題目。也就是說，接下來的一個(ge) 月，是建立自己對題目的理解，以及積累素材的過程，每天進步一點點就可以了，不必要求自己一次就取得很大的進展。

1. 平行宇宙 (multiverse) 聽著像是量子力學時代才有的理論，但它其實曆史悠久，在哲學領域裏是很古老的一個(ge) 命題，最早可以追溯到古希臘 Atomists 和 Stoics 這兩(liang) 個(ge) 學派，一個(ge) 代表人物是 Chrysippus of Soli（如下圖）。大家可以沿著這些線索去搜索。

2. 平行宇宙有很多種不同的定義(yi) 方式，大家在文章裏務必先定義(yi) 清楚，自己討論的是怎樣一個(ge) 設定的平行宇宙。能把話講清楚，把定義(yi) 給清楚，哲學世界裏的問題起碼會(hui) 少掉 2/3 。

3. 如果平行宇宙是真的，那我們(men) 這個(ge) 世界的確會(hui) 受到很大的影響——這將是一個(ge) 巨大的世界觀上的衝(chong) 擊（想想牛頓和愛因斯坦時代的人，受到了怎樣強的世界觀上的衝(chong) 擊）。說具體(ti) 點就是，我們(men) 的道德觀會(hui) 受到挑戰。Morality in a Multiverse 是一個(ge) 很值得討論的話題，事實上這也是一個(ge) 在哲學領域被討論很多的話題。
