麵對waitlist, 我該怎麽(me) 辦？

申請季已經接近尾聲，很多申請者發現自己和周圍的同學/朋友都或多或少被部分學校放進了候選名單，也就是我們(men) 常說的「waitlist」。

那為(wei) 什麽(me) 會(hui) 存在「waitlist」這個(ge) 錄取狀態呢？

紐約大學陳述: "Every year seems to exceed the previous on as the most competitive admission process in NYU’s history. Unfortunately, even though students may be clearly competitive for admission based on their academic records and their test scores, we are only able to admit a fraction of qualified students given the space we have available in our classes at NYU.  

每年似乎都超過前一年，成為(wei) 紐約大學曆史上最具競爭(zheng) 力的錄取過程。不幸的是，盡管根據學生的學習(xi) 成績和考試成績，學生可能在入學方麵具有明顯的競爭(zheng) 力，但鑒於(yu) 我們(men) 在紐約大學的課程中提供的空間，我們(men) 隻能錄取一小部分合格的學生。

"布朗大學的招生官Logan Powell在2021年采訪中表明: "A record-breaking increase in applicants and an intensified feeling of unpredictability among high school seniors led to numerous students being placed on the waiting list, ensuring that even with a given yield rate. 申請人數創紀錄的增加和畢業(ye) 生的不可預測性加劇導致許多學生被列入候補名單。"

同樣的，聖母大學表示: "The size and strength of our applicant pool precludes us from admitting all of the great applicants whom we envision thriving on our campus. 總而言之，「Waitlist」表示申請者具有獲得錄取的實力，但在招生委員會(hui) 投票或與(yu) 其他申請者比較下，由於(yu) 各種原因，他們(men) 暫時沒有獲得錄取，成為(wei) 了「需要再咬一口的蘋果」。

放入候選名單的學生有助於(yu) 學校完成每年的入學學生數量指標，而越來越多的申請者和不確定性，讓大學選擇擴大了候選名單，而讓更多申請者進入了候選名單。我們(men) 也針對相關(guan) 問題整理了一些Q&A，供大家參考：

Q: 從(cong) waitlisted到admitted的概率有多少？

@Feifei:

北卡教堂山/UNC指出："We are not able to predict any student’s chance of being admitted. We do not rank the waiting list, and, should spaces become available, our review of candidates will focus primarily on their original applications and on their updated grades or final transcripts. 我們(men) 無法預測任何學生被錄取的機會(hui) 。我們(men) 不會(hui) 對等候名單進行排名，如果有空位，我們(men) 對候選人的審查將主要關(guan) 注他們(men) 的原始申請以及他們(men) 更新的成績或最終成績單。"

卡內(nei) 基梅隆大學/CMU 告知申請者：“We won't know how many students will be offered admission from the Waiting Lists until we have an understanding of the space available. 我們(men) 任一候補名單上（優(you) 先和普通）的任何錄取通知都與(yu) 當年5月1日前確定報道的學生數量有關(guan) 。在我們(men) 預估可能有的空位前，我們(men) 不知道有多少學生會(hui) 從(cong) 等候名單中被錄取。”

麻省理工/MIT 同時陳述:"We won’t know if we will be able to select students from the wait list until admitted students return their enrollment decisions in early May.最早要到 5 月的第二周才能從(cong) 候補名單中抽走。"

所以正如大學如實陳述，隻有在每年的5月1日前後，大學才會(hui) 陸續知道當年選擇報道的學生數量，從(cong) 而評估從(cong) 後補名單上錄取的可能性。所以潤格建議，優(you) 先整理自己熱愛的學校的候補名單，然後著手準備後續的材料，因為(wei) 每年候補名單名額具有波動性，收集到的前幾年候補名單的錄取數據可以了解，但並非對當年的候補名單有決(jue) 定性參考意義(yi) 。

Q: 被waitlisted後，我能做些什麽(me) ？

@Ziwei:

通常補充Love Letter or Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI) 繼續表達對學校感興(xing) 趣的文書(shu) 文件為(wei) 首選策略。

通過羅徹斯特大學/University of Rochester的信息我們(men) 可以了解:“You could talk about any significant new honors, positions, or accomplishments, changes in your academic interests or career plans, or any new information about your plans at Rochester. 你可以談論遞交申請後任何重大的新榮譽、職位或成就，你的學術興(xing) 趣或職業(ye) 計劃的變化，或者任何有關(guan) 於(yu) 你在羅切斯特大學的計劃。"

從(cong) 範德堡大學/Vanderbilt 這裏我們(men) 可以了解到: "As long as this information is new, we will accept it. This includes updated second-semester grades, leadership positions, academic honors, and letters of recommendation.隻要遞交信息是新的，我們(men) 就會(hui) 接受。可能包括更新的第二學期成績、領導職位、學術榮譽和推薦信。"

與(yu) 此同時，維克森林大學/Wake Forest University告知申請者:"Your email should describe how the final months of your senior year are progressing; please be aware that the Admissions Committee is particularly interested in updates about your academic work. 你的電子郵件應該描述你高年級最後幾個(ge) 月的進展情況；請注意，招生委員會(hui) 對您學術工作的更新特別感興(xing) 趣。"

由此可見，通過各大學的建議，我們(men) 總結申請者在LOCI內(nei) 可以陳述這些信息:

1）遞交材料後取得的新的成就和榮譽。例如是否持續獲得校內(nei) 獎學金，或者在新的學科類競賽中獲得佳績，亦或許在自己熱愛的活動中是否有對周圍社群有新的影響力。

2）學術興(xing) 趣方向探索的新信息，是否有閱讀新的學科類書(shu) 籍，新的學科類競賽，大學網課課程，校內(nei) 學術學科情況。

3）對於(yu) 目標大學的生活的期待和計劃，想參加的課程，研究機會(hui) ，校內(nei) 社團，喜愛的老師，大學獨有的課程，這些資源如何利用

4）根據往年潤格從(cong) 候補名單錄取的情況來看，我們(men) 依然會(hui) 建議增加屬於(yu) 個(ge) 人特質類的內(nei) 容，尤其是與(yu) 其他候補名單的同學相比，申請者的個(ge) 人特色，家庭文化，個(ge) 人價(jia) 值觀等。在大學錄取和歡迎新一屆學生時，你入選的理由和色彩，非常重要。

Q: 被waitlisted後，我能額外提交其它材料嗎？

@Harold:

北卡教堂山大學/UNC說明: "We will not be able to interview our waiting list candidates nor do we encourage you to submit additional letters of recommendation. 我們(men) 將無法麵試候補名單上的候選人，也不鼓勵您提交額外的推薦信。"

同時聖母大學/UND和紐約大學/NYU也指出："We do NOT recommend additional recommendation letters. 我們(men) 不建議遞交推薦信。"

但是不同的是弗吉尼亞(ya) 大學/UVA 陳述到 : "Although you are welcome to send additional letters of recommendation, you should only send them if they add new information. 雖然我們(men) 歡迎您發送額外的推薦信，但您應該隻在有新信息需要更新時發送它們(men) 。"

因此，潤格建議在選擇是否發送推薦信之前，應先了解該大學是否願意接受推薦信。雖然直接發送推薦信到大學郵箱大不了直接被忽視，但是否也會(hui) 造成沒有慎重了解學校的候選名單政策的印象，需要申請者斟酌。

另外，克萊蒙特·麥肯納學院/CMC在候選名單裏可以讓申請者再次選擇遞交2分鍾短視頻自我介紹，如果此類接受短視頻的院係在你的名單裏。遞交2分鍾自我介紹視頻可以更全麵地幫助學校了解申請者，是潤格非常鼓勵的方式。但需要評估做視頻的時間和可能的額外費用成本，同時並非所有的院校都接受短視頻。

總而言之，Waitlist 既不是錄取，也不是拒絕，它似乎是一個(ge) 更不可捉摸的結果。各大學都表示，申請者競爭(zheng) 激烈，但由於(yu) 空間限製，無法錄取所有合格學生。

因此，候選名單有助於(yu) 學校完成入學指標。同時，候選名單錄取概率難以預測，隻有在每年5月1日前後，學校才能了解錄取可能性。

申請者在候選名單後可以通過提交LOCI（繼續表達對學校興(xing) 趣的信）和其他材料（如短視頻、額外推薦信等）來增加錄取機會(hui) 。

然而，在提交這些材料前，了解目標學校的政策和要求至關(guan) 重要，同時潤格建議，理清自己可能被錄取的關(guan) 鍵點，在LOCI裏清楚羅列，可能有助於(yu) 增加錄取概率。

但更重要的是，我們(men) 需要整理好心情，大步向前。大一或者大二的轉學，未來研究生的申請，博士之路的選擇，都是大學教育路上的諸多機會(hui) 。雖然本科新生申請的候選名單讓人沮喪(sang) ，但換個(ge) 角度，作為(wei) 一個(ge) 值得被多咬一口的蘋果，通過轉學到心怡學校的概率也的確會(hui) 更高一些。
