1、對理科強校的“偏見”也許很多人會(hui) 認為(wei) ，麻省理工學院這樣以理科聞名於(yu) 世的學校，在申請的時候可能會(hui) 更注重學生理工類的專(zhuan) 科成績，而不是寫(xie) 作這樣的文科類別。
在最近與(yu) 小薩老師製作文書(shu) 指南的時候，我也帶著同樣的“偏見”，打開了麻省理工學院的招生界麵，多元化的文書(shu) 要求，讓我大開眼界。
2、MIT 的“文科基因”MIT 的招生官認為(wei) ，與(yu) 其讓申請者用一篇長長的文書(shu) 介紹自己，我們(men) 不如多設計幾個(ge) 問題讓申請者去回答，這樣才能讓我們(men) 更好地了解你。典型的理科生思維，通過多維度去找到問題的答案。
今年 MIT 一共給申請者設計了六道 short answer essay questions ，每篇要求的篇幅都不長，基本都在 250 字以內(nei) ，有一篇甚至隻有 100 字的字數限製。
更少的字數限製，並不意味著寫(xie) 作難度的降低，申請者應具備更好的結構組織能力與(yu) 語言能力。讓我們(men) 一起看看今年 MIT 的文書(shu) 問題吧：
MIT的5個(ge) 小問題，主要圍繞著申請者的成長軌跡、過往經曆、處理問題的方式展開，是這樣的：
1）描述一下你的生長環境，可以是你的家庭、俱樂(le) 部、學校、社區、城市或城鎮。這樣的環境如何塑造你的夢想與(yu) 抱負呢？（不超過250字）
2）和我們(men) 談談 MIT 哪個(ge) 領域對你最有吸引力？（不超過100字）
3）描述一次你真正因為(wei) 喜歡而去參加的活動。（200-250字）
4）描述你為(wei) 社會(hui) 做出貢獻的一種方式，無論是在家庭、同學間或鄰裏間，等等。（200-250字）
5）告訴我們(men) 你曾經曆過的最嚴(yan) 峻的挑戰或是不按計劃進行的事項。你是如何處理這樣的情況呢？（200-250字）
需要特別注意的是，第六道題出現的位置不是太顯眼，不注意審視文書(shu) 要求的同學可能會(hui) 漏掉噢，要求如下：
這是道開放性試題，讓你描述除去上述 5 道題涉及的方麵，還有什麽(me) 關(guan) 於(yu) 你的信息是值得分享給學校的。
3、來自招生團隊的文書(shu)
除了題目外，我們(men) 通常能看到招生官給出寫(xie) 文書(shu) 的建議。閱讀學校官方給的範文，是動筆前需要做的重要事項之一，這不僅(jin) 能了解招生官的偏好，或許也能賦予你一些靈感。
基本上所有的學校都會(hui) 提供往年申請者寫(xie) 的優(you) 秀範文，而 MIT 的招生官想到了一個(ge) 更有趣的點子：我們(men) 親(qin) 自寫(xie) 。招生官親(qin) 自下場“秀肌肉”，是少見的。帶著這樣的好奇心，我閱讀完了十二名招生官的“自我介紹”，決(jue) 定破例給他們(men) offer（開個(ge) 玩笑）。
招生團隊選擇了第三道題來做示範，也就是這道：
那麽(me) 就讓我們(men) 轉換一下身份，化身“招生官”，看看“學生”們(men) 寫(xie) 的文書(shu) 吧：Every summer I receive a visit from a person I' ve never met, a person who technically doesn' t exist. Let me explain. When I took AP Literature (many moons ago) I encountered Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for the first time. I fell in love with Adichie' s detailed, perceptive prose, her humor, and most of all, Ifemelu—the confident, witty, blog-writing main character. The story follows Ifemelu as she grows up in Lagos, Nigeria and immigrates to the United States for university, eventually becoming a successful writer and moving back to Nigeria to rediscover home. It' s a coming-of-age tale, a love story, and a record of how we all evolve based on social context and age. I reread this book every June, and each time, something new resonates with me—the nerve-wracking freedom of moving to a new city, the overwhelming rush of first love, the difficulty of reconciling one' s childhood self with an emerging adult self. Rereading the book has become a means to measure how I' ve grown as a person—similar to how I marked my height in pencil on my doorframe each year as a kid. By now Ifemelu feels like a friend, and the week I spend with her each summer feels like a highly-anticipated visit during which I remember all the reasons I connected to her in the first place and discover new axes of connection (and new parts of myself). Back to reading now—Ifemelu' s only here for a few more days.——AlessandraI slowly make my way through the metal doors, moving slowly, as to not draw too much attention. Taking a deep breath, I remind myself of my goal—one that will involve patience and determination. MIT前招生辦公室聯絡主任 Ben Jones 也曾說過 " we are looking for the applicant's true voice when we read his or her essay. "現任MIT招生辦主任 Stuart Schmill 在此前接受的采訪中也多次強調“我們(men) 想要看到最真實的你。”
真實！真實！真實！這也許就是MIT身為(wei) 理科院校所看重的吧。長期麵對冰冷的數字、符號、定律，熱忱且真實的情感表達，會(hui) 給招生官煥然一新的別樣情緒。而真實表達的前提，就需要你的深思熟慮，構思是需要技巧與(yu) 時間的，畢竟你想要展現給招生官的你的各個(ge) 方麵，和他們(men) 看完你的文書(shu) 能感知到的信息，可能是有區別的。因此，如何將你想要展現的表現出來，是需要鍛煉的。
