Modernization has profoundly impacted the modern world's lifestyles and values. In this context, some people believe that individuals act in their own best interests regardless of the welfare of the family or the community; therefore, it would be optimal to adopt the older values. I do not believe, however, that a return to traditional values will address the mentioned issue.

It appears that adhering to a bygone lifestyle is a means of strengthening interpersonal bonds. On the one hand, people who form close relationships with their relatives can receive financial and emotional assistance from the surroundings. On the other hand, exchanges within a community contribute to a more agreeable living environment and improve people's interpersonal skills. Living in a community where individuals share common interests and advantages creates a more harmonious society that discourages conflict and promotes empathy among its members.

However, the disadvantages of the conventional way of living can be intolerable. In the past, for example, arranged marriages denied freedom of choice and individual preferences, and patriarchy, which gave men absolute control, failed to recognise the fundamental rights and needs of women and children, resulting in their unjust oppression. In addition, the concept of a better world evolves over time, and a return to historical values does not solve the problems of personal greed and selfishness, as these traits are inherent to human nature and cannot be eradicated in either the present or the past.

In conclusion, I believe that reverting to the old way of life is ineffective in making the world a better place because the disadvantages appear to greatly outweigh the advantages.
