考GRE不僅(jin) 單詞要背會(hui) ,短語也非常重要!

因為(wei) 在考場上很多單詞往往不是獨立出現,而是和各種介詞搭配使用。大家如果對單詞的固定搭配不熟悉,很可能會(hui) 錯誤劃分句子結構,導致無法理解句子,這也往往是同學們(men) 考試的失分點之一。

要知道,記憶短語和單詞又有很大不同:短語數量多,詞組相似,難以記憶...不少小夥(huo) 伴們(men) 在記憶短語時是叫苦連連。

a measure of 相當大數量;很大程度

【釋義(yi) 】相當大數量;很大程度:

measure of a particular quality, feeling, or activity is a fairly large amount of it

【例1】The colonies were claiming a larger measure of self-government.

殖民地正要求獲得更大程度上的自治。

【例2】It is ironic that a critic of such overwhelming vanity now suffers from a measure of the oblivion to which he was forever consigning others, in the end, all his self-adulation has only worked against him. 這是一個(ge) 諷刺,那就是如此強烈的自負的一個(ge) 人,現在竟然遭受著相當大程度的遺 忘,而這種遺忘一直都是他置之於(yu) 別人身上的,到頭來,所有的他的自負都是對自己不利。

attribute…to… 把…歸因於(yu)

【常考1】把…歸因於(yu) ;把…歸咎於(yu) :

if you attribute something to an event or situation, you think that it was caused by that event or situation

【例句】Women tend to attribute their success to external causes such as luck.

女性傾(qing) 向於(yu) 將她們(men) 的 成功歸因於(yu) 外部因素,比如運氣。

【常考2】將(品質或特征)加於(yu) …;認為(wei) …為(wei) …所有:

If you attribute a particular quality or feature to someone or something, you think that they have got it.

【例句】People were beginning to attribute superhuman qualities to him.

人們(men) 開始覺得他超人一等。

【常考3】認為(wei) (文章、藝術品或評論)出自…:

if a piece of writing, a work of art, or a remark is attributed to someone, people say that they wrote it, created it, or said it

【例1】This, and the remaining frescoes, are not attributed to Giotto.

這個(ge) ,還有那些殘存的濕壁畫,都不是喬(qiao) 托的作品。

【例2】A Madonna and Child attributed to Pietro Lorenzetti.

被認為(wei) 出自彼得羅·洛倫(lun) 澤蒂之手的作品《聖母子》。

【注】該詞的名詞形式依然保留介詞的搭配形式,例如:There's usually a lot of attribution of evil intent to those who have different views. 那些持異議者通常多被認為(wei) 心懷邪念。

bestow sth on/upon sb 給予;贈與(yu)

【釋義(yi) 】給予;贈與(yu) ;授予;賜予:to bestow something on someone means to give or present it to them 【例】

【例】The Queen has bestowed a knighthood on him. 女王已經授予他爵士頭銜。

【官方真題】Famous among job seekers for its largesse, the company, quite apart from generous salaries, bestowed on its executives annual bonuses and such perquisites as low-interest home mortgages and company cars.

它在找工作的人中因為(wei) 它的慷慨而知名,這個(ge) 公司,除了它慷慨的 工資外,還提供每年的分紅和一些額外補貼,例如低利息的房屋抵押和公司的小車給它的經理們(men) 。

【注】該句中,為(wei) 倒裝句,因為(wei) 句中的 sth(從(cong) annual 到 cars.)部分過長,所以會(hui) 出現倒裝。此外,句中的 low-interest 為(wei) 很低的利息的意思。

be bound to 一定會(hui) ;必然會(hui) ;

【常考1】(對某事並不確定或無確鑿證據時,認為(wei) 其)肯定會(hui) ,確定是:

if you say that something is bound to happen or be true, you feel confident and certain of it, although you have no definite knowledge or evidence

【例1】 I'll show it to Benjamin. He's bound to know.

我會(hui) 把它給本傑明看,他肯定會(hui) 知道。

【例2】However original they might be, Roman poets were bound to have some favorite earlier author whom they would emulate. 不管羅馬詩人們(men) 多麽(me) 富有原創性,他們(men) 所喜愛的早期作者肯定 是他們(men) 模仿超越的對象。

【常考2】一定會(hui) ;必然會(hui) ;注定會(hui) :

if you say that something is bound to happen, you mean that you are sure it will happen, because it is a natural consequence of something that is already known or exists

【例句】 If you are topless in a public place, this sort of thing is bound to happen. 如果你在公共場所裸露上身,這種事情一定會(hui) 發生。

subject to sth. 使經受;使遭受

【常考1】使經受;使遭受:

if you subject someone to something unpleasant, you make them experience it

【例1】Innocent civilians are being arrested and subjected to inhumane treatment.

無辜的平民正被逮捕並遭受非人的虐待。

【例2】Because the potential hazards pollen grains are subject to as they are transported over long distances are enormous,wind pollinated plants have,in the view above, compensated for the ensuing loss of pollen through happenstance by virtue of producing an amount of pollen that is one to three orders of magnitude greater than the amount produced by species pollinated by insects.

由於(yu) 花粉粒在長距離的運輸過程中麵臨(lin) 著潛在的巨大危險,按照上述觀點,風媒授粉植物補償(chang) 了由隨機事件造成的花粉損失,其途徑是,製造出大於(yu) 蟲媒授粉植物所產(chan) 生的花粉量的一至三個(ge) 數量級的花粉量。

【常考2】受…支配的;服從(cong) 於(yu) …的:

if someone is subject to a particular set of rules or laws, they have to obey those rules or laws

【例】arguing that as a sovereign state it could not be subject to another country's laws

爭(zheng) 論說作為(wei) 一個(ge) 主權國家其不受其他國家法律的約束

【常考3】可能受…影響的;易遭受…的:

to be subject to something means to be affected by it or to be likely to be affected by it

【例】a disorder in which the person's mood is subject to wild swings from mania to depression

患者情緒在狂熱和抑鬱之間瘋狂起伏的紊亂(luan) 狀態
